Opinions of Devonport Recreation & Function Centre
The Devonport Recreation & Function Centre is a versatile facility that offers a range of activities and programs. I recently attended my grandson’s Tae Kwon do grading at the hall, and it was quite cold due to the lack of heating. This made the experience less comfortable than it could have been. On the positive side, they offer affordable access to squash or racket-ball courts, with a $15 pass for 24/7 access. However, it’s worth noting that they no longer have a gym available for public use.
The overall condition of the center seems to be getting a bit tired, but it is still considered fine for use. The sauna sessions are priced at $8 each, which seems reasonable. It’s clear that there is a need for some maintenance and upgrades to improve the overall appeal of the center, especially in terms of comfort and aesthetics.
One standout program offered by the Devonport council is the “ageing stronger” program, designed to provide light exercise for senior citizens. The feedback from participants has been overwhelmingly positive, with enthusiastic attendance on both Tuesdays at 1 p.m. and Thursdays at 10 a.m. The program seems to be highly valued by the senior community, and many of them, including myself, would be disappointed if it were not to continue in the future.
The center also provides an opportunity for social shooting, although it requires advanced planning and coordination. Anyone interested in this activity is advised to make contact with the head office located in the squash courts during business hours. Additionally, the center hosts various events such as a food expo, providing visitors with additional entertainment and engagement opportunities.
In conclusion, the Devonport Recreation & Function Centre offers diverse activities and programs, catering to a wide range of interests. While there are certainly areas that need improvement, such as heating in the hall and overall maintenance, the center continues to serve its community with valuable programs and activities. The aging stronger program for seniors has garnered significant praise, reflecting the positive impact the center has on the lives of its members. With some attention to maintenance and potential upgrades in the future, the center has the potential to further enhance its appeal and continue to be a valuable asset to the community.
