Visiting SWELL Palmerston (Palmerston Pool and Gym) was an experience of mixed emotions. The pools are a great place to swim, offering 3 beautiful pools, 50m, 25m, and a baby pool with water toys, all covered with a beautiful tropical sunshade. The water quality is excellent, and the lifeguards are vigilant in supervising all pools. Additionally, the facility offers many sports facilities and pools, making it a place where one can spend the whole afternoon.

However, my visit was soured by the absence of lockers to place valuables and the prevalent issue of vandalism. The pool needs more security as offenders break in and damage property. It’s truly disheartening to witness such incidents. I do hope that the authorities take necessary steps to address this concern to ensure the safety and security of the facilities.

Regarding the gym, I didn’t have the chance to check it out, but I observed that there is a fully fitted gym on the premises. On a positive note, the Gym is free for Territorians until 2025, which is an excellent initiative by the Palmerston council.

Despite the positive aspects, there are some notable grievances. I found the cleaner to be ineffective, and the lack of cleanliness was evident. The heated pool had been out of service for about 10 weeks, which disrupted the hydrotherapy sessions. Additionally, the absence of a clock and the scheduling of swimming lessons in the supposedly heated pool on Saturdays were disappointing.

On a more personal note, I was moved by the golden shimmering sunset and the perfect drop back dive that I enjoyed with my granddaughter. This moment of joy amidst the challenges presented a poignant contrast during my visit.

In conclusion, the SWELL Palmerston has its strengths, such as the quality of the pools and the welcoming atmosphere provided by the lifeguards. However, there are notable areas that require attention, including security measures, maintenance issues, and overall cleanliness. I hope to see improvements in these areas to enhance the overall visitor experience.
